چکیده

Previously considered benign, Plasmodium vivax malaria infection is now increasingly being recognised as a cause of severe and complicated malaria1. We present a case of an 11-yr-old male child, who developed multiple organ dysfunction in the form of oliguric acute renal failure, hepatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding with shock, bacterial peritonitis along with severe anaemia and thrombo cytopenia. The patient required multiple sessions of haemodialysis and blood product transfusions. The patient responded to standard antimalarial treatment and recovered without any sequel.

Molecular Evidence on Changing Pattern of Mixed Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax Infections during Year-Round Transmission of Malaria in Chahbahar, Iran

Mixed malaria infections, Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax, are suspected to occur at a greater frequency than is detected by conventional light microscopy. In order to determine the year round pattern of transmission and the frequency of mixed infections in malaria endemic area, we carried out a prospective comparison of diagnosis by conventional light microscopy and nested PCR in Chahbahar ...

Need for PCR analysis in assessing severe malaria infections with Plasmodium vivax.

Even though Plasmodium vivax is highly prevalent in India, the studies are limited not only due to its benign nature but also because of the magnitude of severity caused by P. falciparum malaria. In a recent interesting case report published in this journal it has been reported that this is the first reported case of vivax malaria associated with acute pancreatitis, which resulted in mortality ...
